Public Consultation Update – June 2026
Update on TamarTag Administration Fee Consultation
29 June
Following the recent decision by the Joint Committee to reject the proposal to increase the TamarTag administration fee to £2, Tamar Crossings would like to provide an update on the current position and next steps.
The public consultation was undertaken to gather feedback on the limited options currently available to address the financial pressures associated with operating the TamarTag scheme. As part of this process, we presented a range of possible approaches and invited users to share their views.
Having reviewed the available options, Tamar Crossings considered an increase in the TamarTag administration fee to £2 to be the option that would have the least overall impact on users while helping to reduce the ongoing financial burden of the scheme. However, we recognise that many members of the public expressed clear opposition to this proposal, and we appreciate everyone who took the time to engage with the consultation.
With the proposal now rejected by the Joint Committee, the shortfall in funding for the TamarTag scheme will need to be met from other areas of the business, which will place additional pressure on Tamar Crossings’ overall reserves.
A financial workshop will be held with the Joint Committee next month to explore all available options for addressing this issue and ensuring the long-term financial sustainability of Tamar Crossings. This will include reviewing opportunities to reduce operational costs or generate additional income, including options discussed during the consultation such as toll increases or service level reductions.
In the meantime, Tamar Crossings will continue to explore the possibility of securing capital write-offs from central government, although this will require support from our local MPs and wider stakeholder engagement.
Tamar Crossings remains committed to working with the Joint Committee, stakeholders and our communities to identify a fair and sustainable way forward.
