TamarTag is the name of the Electronic Toll Collection system at the Tamar Bridge and Torpoint Ferry crossings. The system uses safe, secure and reliable communications technology to perform an electronic monetary transaction between a vehicle passing through one of the toll facilities and the toll operator.
The Electronic Toll Collection system offers a more convenient way for frequent users to pay their tolls, speeds up transactions through toll lanes, and reduces the handling of cash for both the customer and collectors. In addition, the faster transaction time increases the throughput at the recently widened Bridge and facilitate the collection of tolls from the greater numbers of vehicles being carried by the new larger Torpoint Ferries.
The TamarTag is an Electronic Tolling system used by the Tamar Bridge and Torpoint Ferry (TBTF) river crossings.
It was introduced back in 2006, to be a more efficient way of getting our customers across the River Tamar.
Our Tag, is a small device (no bigger than a match box) that sits in the windscreen of your vehicle, giving you quicker and more economical passage over our two crossings.
If you choose to obtain one, as a customer of TBTF, from 1 May 2022 you will then benefit from a huge significant reduction of 35% on all crossings, for example, a car or light van would normally pay £2.00 but with a tag would only pay £1.30 .
Cash tolls cannot be increased until authorisation is gained from the Department for Transport. A formal application to increase cash tolls by 30% was submitted to the Government early in April 2022.
If approved this increase is expected to come into effect in January 2023.
If the application to increase cash tolls is approved, Tag rates will not increase again in January 2023 when cash tolls increase, and the discount rate will effectively return to the 50% discount that applied before May 2022.
In 2014, a monthly administration fee was introduced. A payment of 80p is deducted from all open TamarTag accounts on the last day of each month. There are no plans to increase the monthly fee.
All that is required from you is to complete an Application Form, details of which can be found in the Applying for Your TamarTag section. You will find all the information you need there also.
Please return the completed form to either our Tamar Bridge Customer Services or Torpoint Ferry Office.
Once you have your TamarTag you can cross the bridge without the worry of needing cash available. You just keep the account topped up, crossing when you need.
