Torpoint Ferry Service Update – August
Torpoint Ferry – temporary service arrangements
The Torpoint Ferry will be operating a two-ferry service for the remainder of this week (11 - 14 August).
The service will return to three ferries over the weekend, before moving back to two ferries again at the start of next week. Normal service will resume as soon as possible.
We understand that a reduced service can be frustrating, particularly when it results in longer waiting and journey times. We want to provide some context around why temporary changes to the ferry service may sometimes be necessary.
The safe operation of each ferry requires a specific number of staff in a number of specifically trained roles. If a member of staff in one of these specialist roles is unexpectedly unavailable, for example due to bereavement or sickness leave, we may no longer have the required staffing arrangements to operate that ferry safely.
Where possible, other suitably trained members of staff can provide additional cover alongside their usual hours. However, there are legal limits on the number of hours an individual can work each week. This means we need to carefully assess where additional hours can be used most effectively to maintain the best possible service for our customers.
Typically, this means prioritising additional cover at peak times and during weekends, when we experience the highest levels of traffic.
Our service levels are continually reviewed and we will return to a three-ferry service as soon as we are able to do so safely and within our operational requirements.
We apologise for any additional time this may add to your journey and appreciate your patience and understanding while these temporary arrangements are in place.
We would also ask customers to please be kind and patient with our crews. Our teams are working hard to provide a safe and reliable service, often in challenging circumstances, and they are doing everything they can to keep the ferry operating and minimise disruption to our customers.
