A: The system uses electronic devices, tags, fitted to vehicles to allow tolling without physical payment using cash or voucher. The tag is a small electronic device fitted on the inside of the vehicle windscreen which is read either by roadside equipment at the Bridge or by a handheld reader at the Ferry.

A: At the Bridge, new signs above toll lanes will indicate if lanes are open and if they are manned. All three Torpoint Ferries are equipped with Electronic Toll Collection.

Up to the questions

A: The new toll lanes at Tamar Bridge are equipped with equipment to measure vehicles and that equipment is able to recognise a trailer hitch and additional axle(s). The system is therefore able to recognise that a vehicle has a trailer or caravan attached and your account will be charged accordingly. At the Torpoint Ferry, the collector will see the vehicle has a trailer or caravan and will classify the transaction accordingly on his mobile handset.
